Z1 has a geometric shape with a non-directional 360° design. Both the front and back is made of glass and it has a solid and comfortable frame made from one single aluminum piece. The aluminum is anodized to get the right color and the frame is also sandblasted and polished to achieve the contrasting cutouts of the frame.
Special consideration was put into the details of the product – the powerbutton, headphone jack and coverlids are all made in aluminum.

The hardest struggle for this project was to get the concept idea accepted within the company. To make a compact phone with a great spec was not considered as a potential product scope. We had to fight hard to get the idea through.
With great teamwork comes success! As responsible designer the final hardware is a result of a good collaboration with the engineering team and other members of the project.
For this project, I was working together with CMF designer Linda Lissola for both the concept phase and all the way to production. Hard work was put into colour and material to get the right materialization, durability and detailing.
The outcome of the original concept idea was the “Premium Compact product line” and Z1 ended up as a success story on the market and we finally received an IF award for our design.
